SECRET NEW ORLEANS: TJ’s zany humor and design!

MORE INFO:

TJ Fisher is a Southern author, documentarist and social critic who lives on Bourbon Street in the Vieux Carré (old square) — the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. Anointed by The Advocate (Baton Rouge) as suitably outrageous and eccentric to represent New Orleans, Fisher drives a 1959 pink Cadillac convertible named Lulabell. She owns Photo Doody, one of the three original 1940s Howdy Doody marionettes, a distinctive piece of Americana and pop-culture entertainment memorabilia. She is also a colorful citizen of Palm Beach, Florida.

TJ Fisher is also a licensed general contractor.

TJ Fisher’s stylebook VIEUX CARRÉ CHIC: THE ART OF OVERINDULGENT HOME DECOR (coffee-table book) features photography by Skip Bolen.

A fascinating interior décor and design style…
Imbued with enchantment…
Spontaneity of style…
Theatrical mixing of periods and styles…

“Scandalous people are stirring. Perfection is boring. Family skeletons that cannot be buried must be made to sing and dance.” — TJ Fisher

Fisher is also the author of ORLÉANS EMBRACE WITH THE SECRET GARDENS OF THE VIEUX CARRÉ; HEARSAY FROM HEAVEN AND HADES: NEW ORLEANS SECRETS OF SINNERS AND SAINTS; THE PEARLY GATES OF PURGATORY series.

SPECIAL NOTE about TJ’s Bourbon Street residence: The interior and exterior house shots were filmed at a historic 1850s French Quarter, Bourbon Street property, known to be haunted, with documented paranormal activity. The old French Quarter house seeps vapors of a long and colorful history. Secrets. Rumors. Ghosts. Scandals. Celebrations. Passions. Sinners. Saints. The historic and balconied Louisiana French Créole home — often mistaken for a Bourbon Street hotel — was built by a French Quarter businesswoman of the era, a gens de couleur. The 150-year-old Vieux Carré structure, situated on the same block as Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop, features the brick-walled courtyards and secret gardens typical of the French Quarter. The home stands three blocks from the haunted LaLaurie Mansion.

The historic French Quarter of New Orleans is a storied, weathered, melancholy place that inspires the mind, touches the heart and strengthens the spirit. Mysterious and vivid, it is a city that seduces all with a strange sense of downtrodden beauty, embellished and decayed, igniting deep feelings within and a strong connection to the past.

Skip Bolen is a Southern photographer of musicians, architecture, lifestyle, the culture and iconic imagery of New Orleans. Bolen is particularly noted for his famed black-and-white photographic images of jazz musicians, often shot only in natural light in jazz clubs, jazz festivals and concerts.
