creating a "french boudoir" themed bedroom? [teen]?

June 24, 2010 - 3:39 am 16 Comments

My current room is pink and green. Not neon, soft colors. Not 1 wall green, 3 pink..

every wall is pink. you know where a border would go? at the top? right, okay. thats where green is. but it’s cutoff with trim, between the border and the rest of the walls. like this:

_______________________________
_______________________________ <– border. line below this is trim

<–wall

_______________________________

okay, i cant change paint. or main furniture. It’s all antique white colored.

how can i create a French Boudoir themed room?

PLEASEEE answer with links to bedspreads, or nice places to buy decor [not pbteen]

or, links to specific items

orrr preferably,

DIY [Do It Yourself] projects that are easy and will help add to the theme

thanks!!

You need to work in some dark chocolate brown or black accents along with the pale pink.

Art like this would be a good start:

Here is a vinyl wall decal of the Eiffel Tower (these decals are removable and will not harm your paint):

Or, if you are crafty, you could paint the tower on a canvas and use it as wall art.

This bedding set is pricey, but it gives you a good idea of the type of fabrics and prints to choose (solid black bedspread, pink and black animal print pillows, Paris-themed pillow shams and bedskirt):

DIY project ideas:

– stencil French phrases onto your wall or onto solid curtains ("Ooh la la," "Bonjour!," "Je t’aime," etc)

– group lace fans, faux pearls, and high-heel shoes (thrift store!) on your walls or dresser for a boudoir effect

– use wrought-iron look curtain rods or spray paint the ones you have black

Guest entertainment ideas needed for French-themed party…?

June 20, 2010 - 5:23 pm 1 Comment

Bonjour! I am having a french cooking party. So far, I am serving brie & apples and beef bourginon, and the guests are bringing other french cuisine.

My gift giveaways are:
1. Eiffel tour post-its from Pier 1 imports
2. Lush bath product
3. French chocolates (any suggestions?)

Possible movies:
Amelie, French Kiss, La Femme Nikita (more suggestions welcome)

I need some games revolving around french/Francophone themes. I’d also like to do a language test. Does anyone have any cool suggestions?

Also, any decor suggestions would be great. Thanks for reading :)

For the gifts, you should consider giving away a chocolate Eiffel Tower.
if you are in L.A. you can call "C…is for chocolate ". They will make it for you. www.cisforchocolate.com
for the dinner part: you could make crepes. That’s so easy to make and very pretty. you can make blue white and red fillings ( blueberry jam, whipped cream and fresh strawberries…
for the movie part: you must rent"Les visiteurs" It’s an hilarious movie with Jean Reno.
That’s all I have…. Hope this help.

Where can I get decor and accessories to go with this? And what about..ideas please!!!?

I just asked a question about what a great way to do a theme for my daughters room. She will be 1 1/2 and getting into her toddler bed, and I wanted a theme that wasnt artoony and would last till at least 5. Well I got a great answer about a french/country tea party garden. Where can I find crib matress sized linnens and what colors would I use on walls and bedding and drapes? I dont want wild colors or anything. Simple luxurious fabrics and colors please. As of now she has tan burber carpet but I think I want to switch to bamboo hardwood. Her furniture is cherry so would a sandy/medium brown wood color be ok with that? Any thoughts on where to find some great decor to go along. Please nothing to "childish". I’d like it to be tasteful yet fun and classy. Not beyond her age, just not like dora the explorer type stuff.
Well as of now her walls are ivory on top yellow chair rails and trim and sagey green wainscoting. We have apinted before we knew whether or not she was a boy or girl so the paint was neutral. I would like to throw some more girly colors in there. And I really love like super super light lavendary colors.

the bedding itself could be fairly neutral as far as pattern/design… i might be inclined to use something that had an ‘antique’ sort of style, maybe with a small amount of ruffles/lace. plain white sheets would be perfectly fine. as far as colors, i would go with a victorian palette, myself… with a rosey pink and a dark sagey green and snow-white. for a little more variety i might add a few touches of sky blue and berry red.

as far as types of fabric, i would want nice durable cotton. or maybe blends. i would steer clear of anything that’s dry-clean only… etc. this is still a child’s room (it will get messy and easy-clean-up is nice!). and you can get the effect i think you’re going for with a few well-made blends (like poly-cotton).

you could add a few little things like a miniature table and chairs set (for tea-parties) and maybe a plastic tea-set she could actually play with (there are some very pretty plastic sets out there!). and maybe a ‘vase’ with giant flowers in it. a few old-looking lady’s hats could hang above a few coat pegs (and could even be used for dress-up tea time).

i’ll let ya know if i think of anything else!

I want a Parisian / French theme in a shared room?

June 15, 2010 - 1:29 am 2 Comments

Can anybody give me some ideas or suggestions on how to decorate a room according to French/Parisian standards? I was thinking about painting and buying new furniture/decor. The colors that I have in mind are light blue, white, gray and black. My doors and ceiling is already white so I want to do the walls a light blue. I was thinking of putting a large mural of the Eiffel Tower on the wall. I live in a shared room with my twin sis but the room is big enough to allow for our own space.

Sophisticated French bedroom?

June 6, 2010 - 8:56 pm 1 Comment

Hello everyone!
I know there are quite a few posts on here regarding "French" or "Paris" bedrooms, but I am looking for something a little bit different and need advice. :)
I am 15 years old and have always been a Francophile. My mom really wants me to fix up my room, and has been pressuring me to make a decision for a while now. lol I would really be thrilled if I could incorporate my love for all things French into my room decor without it looking tacky or overly attention grabbing. Something sophisticated, stylish, yet subtle that I could easily enjoy throughout the rest of my teenage years and on into college, etc.
Right now, my walls are painted a light green (Sherwin-Williams Celery). The focal point of my room is a very nicely sized window with an arched top. My ceilings are quite high, probably 9 ft (I think the sheer size of my room is making me overwhelmed. I want it to be cozy and comfortable). I have a black shelf on both sides of my big window, which holds trophies from dancing. :) My mom would like to add a two shelf bookcase underneath each of these. The bed is white iron, and there are two bookcases in the room. Both are white, but can be refinished. I have a black Pottery Barn desk.
All this to say, I really would like to achieve the French chic look, but I want a sophisticated "young woman" version, not the kiddie poodles or teen bright glam. I am considering using a white mattelasse on my bed and then using green toile wallpaper to cover the wall directly behind my bed. My mom has some French chateau prints (Sepia colored) that could be reframed (from gold to black maybe??) and hung in my bedroom, I’m just not sure about the sepia on the light green.
Any help, advice, pictures or links you can give me would be greatly appreciated! :) Thanks for your time.

If you are a Francophile, you could consider going for a Shabby-Chic style. You have already got the right sort of furniture and it is quite easy to find and add the right accessories. See my website for ideas on this style.

Does my room decor have to match my bathroom decor?

May 29, 2010 - 4:39 pm 4 Comments

I just bought really pretty Middle Eastern influenced bedding that has purples, maroons and gold and I love it. However, after having switched my theme multiple times…I am left with Parisian decor for my bathroom. It’s not Paris overkill, but I have a picture of the Eiffel Tower and a sign that’s in French. The furniture in my room is brown and I think that brown towels can help tie it together a little more. Also, the wall color is the same.

I’m in a four bedroom student apartment and each room has a bathroom attached with a door that separates the space.

I’d appreciate any advice!

Thanks :)

To answer your question, no your bathroom decor and room decor doesn’t have to match. In fact, I’ve seen amazing bathrooms with colors such as maroon in neutral color houses, and they look amazing.

Given your situation, it sounds like your space is your room, and the bathroom. In which case, I would even try to create the contrast, particularly by using the light and dark theme. The variety will definitely help keep things interesting.
