Ideas for decorating a flourless chocolate cake?

July 13, 2010 - 10:43 am 5 Comments

I am making a flourless chocolate cake with ancho chili powder. I have made the cake many times and it always gets great reviews. My problem comes with decorating the cake.

Traditionally, I have dusted cocoa and powdered sugar in a pattern on the cake. I would somehow like to decorate the cake to reflect that it has chili powder in it. Perhaps making a chili pepper out of some edible confection for the top

Any good ideas on what I can do?

You can melt white chocolate and color it. Then pipe a pattern of a southwest scene (cactus, etc) or a chili pepper

what are the basics for decorating a home ?

July 7, 2010 - 3:51 pm 3 Comments

in decorating a home , there are some basics for everything like colors , pictures , plants ,must do this , must not do that ,….etc.
so , what are these basics ?

To me it sounds like you’re looking for rules. So many decorators go on tv and tout what you should and shouldn’t do. Pfft. I say you do what you think looks good. What is pleasing to YOUR eye. You have to live there. Your house isn’t a show room.

My rule is that I pour my personality into my home. I’ve gotten so many compliments on my home and have had friends ask me to help them with theirs. I give them basic ideas but mostly I think they should use their own creativity and pour their personality into their homes.

One thing I personally hate is a very well decorated room but bare walls. ICK!! Photographs, artwork, etc. are a must in my opinion. But that is just MY opinion.

Don’t always rely on those supposed professional decorators. I once saw a professional decorator on tv paint hay onto a living room wall to give it texture!!! It was terrible! Professionals decorate with their own personal style so you must take everything they say with a grain of salt.

Sugarcrafting David Cakes made 2 Royal Wedding Cakes for The British Royal Family using Royal Icing cake decorating techniques – In 1986 David Cakes made and cake decorated the Wedding Cake for HRH Prince Andrew & Miss Sarah Ferguson and in 1999 he made and cake decorated the Wedding Cake for HRH Prince Edward and Miss Sophie Reece Jones…

Now, David Cakes gains inspiration from his Royal cake connections and creates a huge lavish design for Victoria and Lee who always wanted their own Royal Style extravaganza fairytale wedding cake.

‘Prince Lee and Princess Victoria’ as David affectionately dubbed the couple says “These clients were such a lovely couple and so in love, they just knew what they wanted and simply left myself and the team to create ! It was an amazing experience setting up one of the biggest cakes of the year ! ”

The 7ft creation was decorated using old fashioned English over-piping techniques and was adorned with over 200 hand made gum paste sugar flowers, Swarovski Crystal monogram toppers and was completed with a revolving Carousel !

The wedding celebrations took place at Liverpool’s top stately home `Knowsley Hall` where the wedding cake was displayed.

Ideas for decorating a victoria sponge cake?

July 1, 2010 - 9:49 pm 4 Comments

Yeah, so i’m planning on making a birthday victoria sponge cake for my niece, but I need some ideas for decorating it…
I’m no expert when it comes to baking and decorating but I’d say I’m an 8 on a scale of 1-10, so don’t make the ideas too crazy!
Thankyou x
And how is that anything to do with my question? Lol I don’t want a cake made of a shoe…

Fairy cakes/buns :( cupcakes or mini cakes)
Use exactly the same mixture but pour the mixture into cake cases sitting in a bun tin and
cook for 15 mins at 180 degrees C.

Replace 25g of flour with cocoa powder for chocolate buns, a few drops of vanilla essence for plain buns, or why not experiment with chocolate chips and raisins, or even a few drops of natural food colouring for some crazy coloured buns!

Leave to cool – then the decorating FUN begins … spread simple icing over the top of the cakes and add chocolate buttons, chocolate drops, any small sweets or hundreds and thousands.

Butterfly cakes: Use butter icing to make butterfly cakes – Cut a circle out of the top of the cakes and cut the circle in half to make wings. Fill the hole in the cake with butter icing and put a wing on each side.

what are the basics for decorating each room in a home ?

June 27, 2010 - 9:43 am 4 Comments

in decorating each room in a home , there are some basics for everything like colors , pictures , plants ,must do this , must not do that ,….etc.
so , what are these basics ?

You can stick to three colors and bring one of the colors into the other rooms. Example, if you use blue and white in the living room and accents with pale yellow, then in the dining room you choose green and white you can accent in pale yellow Then you could use yellow in the kitchen. It makes it flow together if all the room are visible.
The middle of the pictures are best hung at eye level. I hang mine between my husbands height and mine.
Most of the rest is personal choice.
Watch out for to much clutter. Walk into the house as if it was a sample house and look for what is out of place.
