Do you think Im crazy for having my house look spring-like in the winter time?

May 29, 2010 - 4:39 pm 3 Comments

I have a cute house and i have always loved cute bunnies, pastels, and the whole cottage, shabby chic look to my home. I feel strange having my house look like this in the fall and im sure i will feel even more strange in the winter time. Is it common to change your house decor for every season or is it ok to have a spring-theme throughout your house all year long. Now, i dont mean that i have easter stuff in my house, just spring colors.. :/

Many people living in areas with four definate seasons will change something up in their houses to brighten them up because of the dull and dreary grey skies throughout the winter snowy season. You are lucky to have a bright and cheery home already! Yours will bring a great smile to your face (and visitors) in midwinter. You get to decide if you want to add/omit/change accessories each season…you do not have to…no rules!

I have antique brown furniture in my bedroom and I want to re-decorate and make it a beach cottage theme?

May 26, 2010 - 10:42 pm 7 Comments

I can change everything else, the head board the wall paint and decor but the furniture I cant change, the furniture is….. a make up table, a high boy cabinet with drawers, a wide dresser, another taller skinnier dresser, a desk that folds down to a desk and two end tables next to the bed. Any suggestions?

Go here and click on color visualizer: http://www.sherwin-williams.com/do_it_yourself/paint_colors/visualizer/
Now pick an interior bedroom scene with dark wood furniture. Write in the color Rainwashed and copy it onto the walls. The trim should be bright white as should the ceiling. Those are the perfect beach cottage colors. I’ve done several beach or cottage themed rooms with these colors and clients are in love with the room when they see it.
I agree with the indoor shutters on the windows or for a more polished look, white flowing sheers. Depending on your age, if you’re a young person for a bedspread, something like this would be a choice of mine: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=118756&RN=31
If older, something more like: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=123300&RN=31
One or two nicely framed pictures, a smart trick is to go to art.com and get posters and then buy inexpensive white or dark wood frames from a local craft store. Here are my suggestions with this room: http://www.art.com/products/p12879155-sa-i2056282/fabrice-de-villeneuve-ocean-amaryllis.htm?sorig=cat&sorigid=0&dimvals=0&ui=a2a275e66cf24282b7d785b751a497fc and http://www.art.com/products/p10283309-sa-i1152391/carol-saxe-sea-breeze-i.htm?sorig=cat&sorigid=0&dimvals=0&ui=a2a275e66cf24282b7d785b751a497fc
Maybe a nice big shell set on a dresser or night stand. Not much more than that, you want to have the affect of uncluttered and breezy.

Colours for a small room with a slanted ceiling.?

May 23, 2010 - 5:40 pm 1 Comment

My bedroom is a pretty awful room. It’s about 8′9" by 15′ and one side has a slanted ceiling (but there is a skylight in the slant, which makes it brighter). I’ve finally arranged my furniture in the way I like, but I’m sick of the colour. At the moment, it is ‘bonaparte’ (a red shade from Benjamin Moore) and although I loved it 5 years ago when I painted it, I’m sick of it now. The trim is white, which I want to keep. I just don’t know what to do in order to change the colour. I like darker colours as a rule and I despise beige or white (other than for accents).

So…any ideas? My furniture is black, if that means anything. Colours I like are medium-dark greys, lavender/greyish purples, blue greens (though I don’t want too much of blue green, since my room at my cottage is that colour), olive greens, etc.

Here are my ideas so far:
First of all, maybe marking a line and painting the flat part of the ceiling white to make the room appear taller. (Right now with the dark red, it feels rather cave-like)
Options:
-Medium-dark grey walls and accent with purple (textiles) and silver (picture frames, throw cushions, etc)
-Olive green walls with brown and red accents
-Dark grey on Main wall (I have many frames and decor on this wall) and either a ‘dusty’ purple or a muted teal on the other walls.

I’m open to suggestions. I like the idea of having 2 paint colours, especially if one is dark. I also like doing fun lines with the paint, such as having one colour run onto the other wall a bit and end with a wavy line, etc. I know many people think a room this size is too small for more than one colour, but I’ve done my small bathroom with 2 colours and it looks fantastic. Anyway, I’ll stop babbling and will eagerly wait for your answers!

play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

http://www.sherwin.com/visualizer/

I think "dewberry" (# 6552) and "enchant" (# 6555) – two shades of purple – would look terrific.

You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

http://www.roomvues.com/

You can get color suggestions & for $5 they’ll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

Do you like my Prologue?

May 20, 2010 - 4:09 pm 3 Comments

I still remember the last day I saw my sister, Laura. That was a dreadful day in my life… probably worse than any other.
You see, our parents died when I was eleven, and she was fourteen. We were a happy family, my father a rich noble, owning his own company that sold home decor; and my mother, a sweet woman who spent most of her time at home with us. If only it would’ve stayed that way.
Two years after they died in the fire, my sister took on the family Business and was doing very well. I, on the other hand, was struggling, living down town in a worn down cottage with nothing. I had to get a job. So I did, for Laura.
I decided to be her maid, as she had three horrible helpers. I dare say I was rather good at the job. Laura still treated me like a sister, so I did the best I could. She really appreciated it. So she and I would spend every Saturday out in the city while her other helpers stayed at home. We would shop, play games, go to museums, and everything sisters should do, and I was quite thankful.
Some days she would send me out to buy eggs and milk and things, something she didn’t trust others to do. So, when she would give me the money to go get those items and I would leave, she would stay home being pampered by the three others. The carriage was always rickety and would make funny noises as we would drive on. The driver, Tom, was a nice man with blonde hair the color of Laura’s, that he would tie back in a ponytail. He usually wore a brown vest and cloak, too.
Tom and I always had great conversation. We would talk about pets and theories and happy times. We would always have a good laugh at each other and smile. That was something only he could properly do. So I became obsessed with riding his carriage. He and I were always bound at having a great time together.
One day, as Laura sent me out to get the eggs, I got in Tom’s cart and we drove off. This time, though, he was not himself, so I asked what was wrong. He simply looked at me and said,
"Don’t be surprised if she’s gone when you get back," I was befuddled. What did he possibly mean? I stared at him for a moment before getting out of the cart, and to my surprise, he got out too. We looked around to find the eggs, and when we did, I just so happened to see something else. It was a locket, made of a fine metal, with a flower imprinted on it. Tom helped me pay for it, and I put a picture of our family before they died in it. I would give this to my sister when I got home.
As I told Tom good-bye for the day and walked in the house, I yelled for Laura, but she didn’t answer. I yelled louder, but still nothing came. Then, I heard a yelp. I followed that yell to find my sister Laura, lying on the floor, with a knife in her heart. I screamed, and I felt ass though all of my happiness was gone. I dropped the locket and tried to help her up, but it was no use.
All I ever saw of the killer, was a shadowy figure jumping out of my window, and I heard Tom asking what was wrong. All of this runs through my mind as I look up at the demon before me.
"Do we have a deal?" it asks. I clutch my locket hard.
"Yes, and when this is all over, you can have it."
BTW, this is a flashback. This all goes through her mind as she sells her soul to the demon that is standing in front of her… She needs revenge. She misses her sister. The only bad part is that it is to the extent of selling her soul for revenge…

The first chapter will be called ‘The Demon’
And the second I think will be ‘The Mark on My Left Foot’

I think I’m going to call it ‘The Mark on my Left Foot’ also.

I thought it was Pretty good. It sounds like something I would read. But where did the demon come from and what deal are they talking about? I thought it was good only you lost me a little in the end. Though im shore the rest of your story would explain everything if I were to read it. Good luck writing:)

Would my Artwork SELL?? VIEW HERE!?

May 17, 2010 - 1:25 am 10 Comments

People pay me to draw portraits of them selfs, loved ones, even their pets, but what about actually trying to sell some of my art work, like on ebay or something?

What are your professional opinions: would you buy it? would others? How much could i ask? What would my artwork sell for if i attempted to auction them off. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WHOEVER ANSWERS! This is impotant to me, so thank you ahead of time!!! :)

Here are some examples…..

Oh my gosh thank you everyone! This is really great feedback!
Yes hurleygurl1390, i used pastells with those, they where inspired by cedar key fl, the last one was actually a scene that was right before me. And thank you, monet is my favourit artist!:)

I enjoyed the turtle and the dock as well. I would recommend getting on a number of art sites, like:
http://www.deviantart.com (o wait duh i think you are already a member there !! :P )

http://www.wetcanvas.com

because they are free and there are thousands of other artists there you could talk to, get opinions, or just look at other people’s art all day long.
I think you definitely have a style, gestural bordering on abstract, with fine happy contrasts. I think you really have fun making your pieces. as for selling, it really depends on the size of your pieces and how much work you have put into them. If you have sold before then that is a benchmark for future sales. If not, then just put a price tag on one and see if the customers fetch it!!! I made a picture of donuts (http://al-jabr.deviantart.com/art/20-Donuts-37864572) once that sold for $305 on Ebay…so you never know… Good luck!
